Saisho Atsushi was a Japanese samurai warrior and bureaucrat who served as the governor of Sakai Prefecture, among other positions. According to various sources, including Japanese Wiki Corpus and Wikiwand, Atsushi was born on December 22, 1827, and died on June 21, 1910.
As the governor of Sakai Prefecture, Atsushi made significant contributions to the region. In 1878, he accepted a petition from the abbot of Hōryūji, Chihaya Jōchō, to offer ancient artifacts to the prefectural bureau, which led to the creation of the Hōryūji Treasures [1]. This collection of artifacts is considered one of Japan's most important cultural treasures.
Atsushi also served as the governor of Kawachi, Hyogo, and Nara Prefectures, and was a member of the Privy Council of Japan. He was known for his stubbornness and was considered one of the Satsuma Clan's Three Greats [2].
Additionally, Atsushi was the adoptive father of Japanese writer Murakami Namiroku and the great-grandfather of the assassin Otoya Yamaguchi [3].
