Gabriel González Videla did not directly contribute to the drafting of the 1980 Chilean constitution. He served as the President of Chile from 1946 to 1952, well before the 1980 constitution was drafted. The 1980 constitution was primarily developed under the military regime of Augusto Pinochet, who came to power in 1973 after a coup d'état. The drafting process was led by a commission appointed by Pinochet, which included legal scholars and members of the military government. The constitution was subsequently approved in a controversial plebiscite held in September 1980. González Videla's political career and influence were separate from the events leading to the 1980 constitution.
