Antigona is deeply connected to the myth of Oedipus and his family as she is one of Oedipus's daughters. Born to the ill-fated couple, Oedipus and Jocasta, Antigone's life was shadowed by the sins of her parents. Oedipus, unknowingly, married his mother and killed his father, fulfilling a tragic prophecy. Antigone is a central figure in the play "Antigone" by Sophocles, which is a sequel to "Oedipus Rex" and continues the story of Oedipus's family. After Oedipus's self-exile, his sons Eteocles and Polynices fought in a civil war for the Theban throne, resulting in both brothers' deaths. Antigone's brother Polynices was left unburied, and she defies the new king Creon's order to perform the burial rites, leading to her tragic end.
