Deputy sheriffs at the Nassau County Police Academy undergo extensive and varied training to prepare them for law enforcement duties. This training includes:

3. Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP): After the initial academy training, new deputies undergo an additional 14 weeks of field training. This phase is a one-on-one training with a certified Field Training Officer (FTO), which involves practical, hands-on experience in real-world scenarios.

4. Classroom Instruction: This includes learning about criminal law, procedures, ethics, and other essential knowledge areas that ensure deputies can perform their duties legally and ethically.

5. Physical Requirements: Deputies must pass the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Criminal Justice and Training physical requirements and hold certification by the Florida State Examination for Law Enforcement.
