The Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study® is the largest long-term study of brain development and child health ever conducted in the United States. Funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), this landmark study aims to enhance our understanding of how various factors, such as substance use, environmental influences, social contexts, genetics, and other biological factors, affect the developing adolescent brain.
The ABCD Study® was launched in 2016 and involves over 10,000 children. These participants are monitored as they progress from ages 9-10 into adolescence and early adulthood. The research findings from this study are expected to provide valuable insights into areas such as mental health, addiction, and the impact of different life experiences on brain development.
