Z'Reg, a Skrull who takes on the superhero alias Crusader, is motivated by a profound admiration and respect for Earth's customs and superheroes. According to his backstory, after assuming a civilian identity as Aubrey Thompson, he fell in love with the culture and heroic ideals of Earth. His decision to become a superhero under the alias Crusader is significantly influenced by the tragic loss of his friend, Curtis Doyle, who was the original bearer of the Freedom Ring.

To honor Doyle's memory and embody the heroic spirit he admired, Z'Reg adopts the mantle of Crusader. This motivation is further amplified by his desire to continue his friend's legacy and contribute positively to the planet he has grown to love (source & source).
