The SS Prinzessin Victoria Luise had an unfortunately brief career primarily due to a navigational mistake. Launched in 1901, she was the world's first cruise ship built solely for luxurious travel. However, in November 1906, the ship met a tragic end when her captain mistook one lighthouse for another and set the wrong course. This error led to the ship striking a submerged reef near Jamaica. The event was compounded by the captain's subsequent suicide after the incident. The ship was declared a total loss and was never salvaged.
