After Lady Jane Franklin departed Tasmania in 1853, the Artefacts associated with her were primarily linked to the Lady Franklin Gallery. This gallery, along with Ancanthe Park, became historical sites of significance. Originally opened on October 26, 1843, the gallery was the first privately funded museum in Australia, and it remained in private ownership until the Hobart City Council purchased it in 1921. In 1949, the Art Society of Tasmania relocated to the premises.
Lady Franklin's initiative to institute a museum aimed to foster cultural and historical preservation, largely attributed to her progressive vision and dedication to the arts and sciences. Furthermore, since 2015, portions of Ancanthe Park have been subdivided and sold for housing development.
