Alexander I of Macedon, known as 'the Philhellene,' significantly influenced the coinage in the Macedonian kingdom during his reign from around 498 to 454 BCE. His expansion efforts included extending his territory to access the silver mines of Mount Dysoron. This access to silver resources enabled him to produce an impressive coinage. His involvement in the campaigns of Xerxes and Mardonius also gave his coinage an air of prestige and significance.
