The original St. Alban's Episcopal Church was consecrated by Bishop William M. Green on May 5, 1859. The church was established when a group of cotton farmers along the Big Black River came together for worship, and it has a rich history since its founding as a parish in 1857. Bishop Green also confirmed 19 individuals during the consecration service, five of whom were enslaved individuals.
