Hà Bắc was a province of Vietnam that existed from 1962 to 1996. It was located in the northern part of the country and was subsequently divided into Bắc Giang province and Bắc Ninh province in 1996. The geographical boundaries of Hà Bắc province were roughly defined by its neighboring provinces and significant geographical features. To the north, it bordered with what is now the Lào Cai province. The east and west boundaries were likely defined by the mountain ranges that form the natural borders of the Red River Delta region. The province was situated in a central region and occupied most of the area of the old Kinh Bac region. It had a strategic geographical position with borders to the north with Bac Kan and Bắc Ninh, to the east with Quảng Ninh and Hai Duong, to the south with Hà Tây, and to the west with Sơn La.
