Albrecht von Urach was born on 8 October 1903 at Hanau, Hessen, Germany. He was the son of Wilhelm Karl Herzog von Urach and Amalie Maria Herzogin in Bayern. He married, firstly, Rosemary Blackadder, daughter of John William Blackadder and Anna Wilson, on 1 June 1931 at Oslo, Norway. He and Rosemary Blackadder were divorced in 1943.
A few years after his divorce, Prince Albrecht married his first wife's former lady-in-waiting Rosalie von Rauch, who was made Countess of Hohenau by the Duke of Saxe-Meiningen, and decided to move to Dresden. It was the wife of his chamberlain, Baroness of Stockhausen, who he had tasked to find an appropriate home.
